In our hometown of Newry, countless teenage love affairs began on the bridge at Sugar Island, beside the Town Hall.

Many hearts were broken there, too.

On a Sunday afternoon, the streets were mostly deserted, apart from young couples walking hand in hand, often ending up in Friar Tuck's chippy. There, a guy could prove that he was a true gentleman, by offering to pay for dinner.

A few of the relationships that began at Sugar Island went the distance, but most crashed and burned, or fizzled out.

And that explains why that bridge is often referred to as 'the bridge of sorrows'.

Our song isn't going to do anything to help that reputation.

It's the story of a boy who leaves a girl in tears, there. Roll on 30 years, and he's wondering if it was the biggest mistake he ever made.
