40 years later at 22 Gia Long Street where the last helicopter evacuation out of Saigon left Vietnam. The iconic spot where the evacuation photo of the last helicopter out of Saigon evacuating U.S government employees during the Fall of Saigon was taken from during Operation Frequent Wind. We found it at what is now 22 Lý Tự Trọng Street formerly 22 Gia Long Street, an office building in modern Vietnam.

In 1975, photojournalist Hubert van Es, captured THIS iconic photo of U.S government employees evacuating the city by helicopter during Operation Frequent Wind.

The photo was widely thought to be American evacuees on to the roof of the United States Embassy boarding a helicopter. In reality it was an apartment complex called the Pittman Apartments which housed employees of the United States Agency for International Development and Central Intelligence Agency's deputy chief of station.
