Matilda Of Flanders Timeline of a Conquering Queen

When the Duke, William of Normandy, came knocking at her door, Matilda of Flanders was far from impressed. Firstly she thought she could do better than this young whippersnapper and the son of a lowly tanners daughter. Although William pressed Matilda, she didn't care; in fact, her eyes were on someone else. However, the timeline would change, and this once-unimaginable couple became one when the marriage occurred in 1053. After William the Conqueror had stormed England at Hastings in 1066, he would send for his wife to be pronounced as Queen. Her quest to achieve greatness was complete; surely only happy days now lay ahead for this French powerhouse!? In this short documentary, we'll uncover the Queen's life and death along with the skills she required to tame her barons, children and husband.
