Life Is Strange: Before the Storm is an episodic narrative adventure game played from third-person perspective. The game reshapes according to the choices player makes. Unlike the first game there is no time manipulation power but instead there is a backtalk challenge which the player tries to persuade other characters by saying the right words at the right time.

In Life Is Strange: Before the Storm, you play as Chloe Price, a troubled sixteen-year-old academy student. She struggles to survive from the grief and anger that she lives in after the loss of her father. The game takes place three years prior to events of Life Is Strange. And it tells the story of Chloe and Rachel from the beginning which was missing in the first game.
