Abdul Ghafoor along his family lived in Killi, tehsil Nakodar district Jalandhar in India. He had a young wife called Rehmat Bibi and a son of two, Muhammad Sarwar. Life was good as his business of buying and selling cattle was going well. Then came the year of partition i.e 1947.
Life changed dramatically.
He had to flee for his life leaving his wife and a son behind in Sangatpur, a nearby village of sikhs. His friends became his foes.
After 2 or 3 years of partition he went to Killi to find Rehmat Bibi, his beloved wife and Muhammad Sarwar, his cute son. He found that Rehmat Bibi and Muhammad Sarwar were taken by Kapoor Singh & Wadhawa Singh to their village called Nawanpind Khalewal. She was married to Kapoor Singh.
When Abdul Ghafoor reached Nawanpind, he was disappointed to find that they were not in the village. They went somewhere else.
Abdul Ghafoor camr back with tears in his eyes. He could never dry up those tears.
He was always restless always talking about his wife and son.
He was married in Pakistan and had sons and daughters but could not erase the memories of those lost beloved ones.
He went back to Killi, India again to find them. This time too he could not see them unfortunately. That was his last visit. Later he could not get permit or could not cross the visa hurdles. Tears were always dwelling in his small eyes.
He kept asking many people who came from India about Rehmat and Muhammad Sarwar but found no clue. He visited border many times in desperate hope to get glimpse of them, alas to no avail.
His other sons asked him to go on holy pilgrimage to Mecca and he begged for visit of India. He said ' I want to visit my village in India and meet my wife and son. I want nothing else from this universe.'
Abdul Ghafoor used to talk, remember, wail and cry for lost ones till he breathed his last some 22 years back. He asked his sons to find their elder brother Muhammad Sarwar and their mother Rehmat Bibi.
So now his son Razzaq Ahmad tells a sad tale and tries to find his brother and mother lost in 1947. About 75 years are gone by, but he still weeps for his brother. He says that the soul of his father would be at peace if we find Muhammad Sarwar and Rehmat Bibi.
He requests the people of Killi, Sangatpur, Nawanpind Khalewal and surrounding areas to help him finding his close relatives.
