The South Wales waterfall you can walk behind – Sgwd yr Eira (Snow Waterfall in Welsh).

You’ll find it in the wonderfully named Waterfall Country, a cluster of beautiful falls in the Bannau Brycheiniog (Brecon Beacons) National Park.
 
You can visit Sgwd Yr Eira on its own, but most people head there as part of the Four Falls Trail. a hike which, as its name suggests, includes four different waterfalls, the other three being Swgd Clun-Gwyn, Sgwd Isaf Clun Gwyn and Sgwd y Pannwr.

The full Four Falls Trail is six miles and took us around three hours – although when the children were younger, we did just visited Sgwd Isaf Clun Gwyn and Sgwd yr Eira which was more manageable for little legs.

The paths are rugged and rocky in parts plus there’s some steep steps – 170 down to Sgwd yr Eira – so it’s not accessible for buggies or wheelchairs (baby carriers definitely recommended for little adventurers). Sturdy walking boots are a must as even when it’s dry, the ground around the falls gets wet and slippery, and a waterproof coat is good if you’re going behind the water.

Stepping behind the falls is such an incredible experience – the noise of the water cascading over a 50ft high cliff, the speed it falls and the white spray which gives the snow in the name.

These videos were taken in early May – if you visit on a dry day in autumn, with all the rain we’ve been having recently, it’ll be even more impressive.
