A majority of Kenyans have rejected the proposals to raise more taxes through the road maintenance levy. The new tax measure being proposed by roads and transport ministry seeks to increase the levy from the current 18 shillings to 25 shillings per litre of petrol and diesel. While acknowledging the public uproar, the Ministry of Roads Cabinet Secretary hinted to withdrawing the proposal in concurrence with the public mood
