The On-To-Ottawa Trek

Описание к видео The On-To-Ottawa Trek

The "Freedom Convoy" to Ottawa, endorsed by right-wing media & politicians is at root a reactionary, anti-worker movement.

In contrast, the 1935 "On-to-Ottawa Trek" was a massive rebellion against PM R.B Bennett's forced labour camps during the Great Depression, and is a proud example of working class solidarity.

Although it was violently suppressed in Regina Saskatchewan, the movement played a key role in winning important reforms for workers in Canada such as Unemployment Insurance.

Special thanks to the BC Labour Heritage Centre for use of footage from their film "On To Ottawa" (available on their YouTube channel)
