Application of Castable in the Well Block of Steel Ladles
The well block is the refractory block that houses the slide gate nozzle system at the bottom of the ladle. Castable is applied around or beneath the well block mainly for the following purposes:
1. Anchoring & Fixing the Well Block：Castable helps secure the well block firmly in place, ensuring proper alignment with the slide gate and preventing movement during ladle operation.
2. Providing Thermal & Mechanical Protection: The castable forms a protective layer around the well block to resist, high temperatures from molten steel、mechanical vibration and impact、thermal cycling during ladle operation. This extends the service life of the well block assembly.
3. Ensuring Joint Sealing：Castable fills gaps between the well block, ladle bottom, and surrounding working lining, preventing steel penetration and protecting the ladle shell.
4. Compensating for Shape Irregularities：The castable can be cast and shaped on-site to accommodate the geometry of the ladle bottom and well block installation.
