Ed: Hey guys, this is Ed from Summit Behavioral Health. Let us take you from hope to healing. In this channel, we talk about health and wellness. So if you're new here, please subscribe below.

Interviewer: Maria, how does Summit treat drug detox?

Maria: An individual would be coming into our inpatient setting either in New Jersey, or Massachusetts, and be met by a team of individuals. First, a nursing assessment would be completed to identify someone's medical stability. Are they really truly a fit for this program from a medical perspective? And once that has been determined, they meet with a counseling team, and a medical physician, who would be assessing, where their needs are in terms of protocol, and establishing then what the stay of treatment will look like.

In that process, we're really looking to work with the individual to assess symptoms, how are they feeling? What are they struggling with? This is typically done in a variety of different ways, but from a medical perspective, it's assessed every few hours of every day in terms of COWS and U.S. scales to truly identify from either alcohol or opiates what their body is struggling with physiologically. And so that will vary through the course of their stay and treatment, and with that then we are treating the individual particular medical interventions addressed specifically for those symptoms.

And also, in that process, we're able to identify other alternative strategies like our holistic services, where we can assist some of the anxieties, some of the depression, some of the anxiousness, restlessness of sleep that sometimes comes about as a result of some of the withdrawal symptoms. And we then can introduce to our patients an opportunity that they may not experience out in the real world, where we're kind of planting a seed perhaps for yoga, perhaps for massage, self care strategies that really can help them be able to manage on their own some of these symptoms that may have pre existed before they came in for detoxification. And that might continue to live on with them to some capacity, less severity most likely after they leave our programming. With post acute withdrawal symptoms it's very likely that will continue to struggle in some way. Sleep might continue to be an issue, appetite might be an issue, anxiousness, or fears, worries, feeling depressed, and tired, not motivated.

So there's a variety of different things that we begin to introduce, that again kind of lay the framework, and plant the seeds that hopefully the individual would be able to take with them to their next step of treatment.

Interviewer: So it truly sounds like Summit just from beginning to end offers a tailor made the program for each patient that comes in.

Maria: Absolutely personalized. So we're really evaluating from top to bottom what an individual needs as well as what kind of treatment and services they've received in the past to be able to perhaps create a different experience for an individual this time. Each time they seek treatment, or ask for help it's a different episode, a different experience, different symptoms, different stressors might be present, so it's really important that we stop, slow down, listen and ask the right questions, and create a real soothing environment for someone to be able to be getting the process of recovery.
