The GST Council has officially introduced GST 2.0, effective from September 22, 2025, with a focus on simplifying India’s tax structure. Earlier, there were four major slabs – 5%, 12%, 18% and 28%. Under GST 2.0, the 12% and 28% rates have been removed, leaving just two primary slabs: 5% and 18%, while a 40% slab has been created for luxury and sin goods.

This reform is expected to provide significant relief to consumers, especially in the electronics sector, where several essential and lifestyle products were heavily taxed earlier.

Air Conditioners: Earlier taxed at 28%, now down to 18%, making cooling solutions more affordable.

Televisions (above 32"): Previously under the 28% slab, now reduced to 18%, ensuring larger screens are within reach of more households.

Monitors & Projectors: Earlier at 28%, now shifted to 18%, benefitting students, schools, and office setups.

Dish Washing Machines: Once considered luxury with 28% GST, now at 18%, making them practical for working families.
