Introduction: Surah No. 2 Al-Baqarah
Introduction
Introduction: This is the longest Surah of the Holy Quran. In its verses 67 to 73, the incident of the cow that the Children of Israel were ordered to slaughter is mentioned. That is why this Surah is called Surah Al-Baqarah, because Al-Baqarah means cow in Arabic. The Surah begins with the statement of the basic beliefs of Islam, namely monotheism, prophethood and the Hereafter. In this context, three types of humans are described, namely, believers, disbelievers and hypocrites. Then the incident of the creation of Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) is described so that man knows the purpose of his birth. After this, in a long series of verses, it is mainly addressed to the Jews who were living in large numbers around Medina. The blessings that Allah Almighty bestowed upon them and the way they acted in ungratefulness and disobedience are described in detail. Almost at the end of the first paragraph, Prophet Abraham (peace be upon him) is mentioned because not only the Jews and Christians but also the idolaters of Arabia considered him their leader. They were all reminded that he believed in pure monotheism and never tolerated any kind of polytheism. In this context, the topic of building the House of Allah and making it the Qiblah is discussed. After explaining its detailed rules at the beginning of the second paragraph, this Surah describes many rules related to the individual and collective life of Muslims, which include many issues related to worship, society, family affairs and governance. This Surah is Madani and has 286 verses and 40 bows.
