ในปี 2492 หลังจากที่ฝ่ายจีนคอมมิวนิสต์ของเหมาเจ๋อตงได้รับชัยชนะเหนือฝ่ายจีนคณะชาติในสงครามกลางเมืองทำให้จีนคณะชาติใต้การนำของเจียงไคเช็คต้องถอนตัวไปอยู่ไต้หวัน แต่มีกองกำลังบางส่วนอย่าง กองพล 193 และกองพล 93 ประมาณ 20,000 คนในมณฑลยูนนานได้ถอนกำลังอพยพเข้าสู่ประเทศเมียนมา และถอยร่นเข้าสู่ชายแดนภาคเหนือของไทย แม้ต่อมาครอบครัวนายทหารบางส่วนจะอพยพไปอยู่เกาะไต้หวันแต่ก็ยังมีลูกหลานกองพล 93 ที่ยังอาศัยอยู่ในเมืองไทย และยังคงอัตลักษณ์บ้านเกิดของพวกเขาเอาไว้จนถึงทุกวันนี้

- THE 93RD DIVISION IN PIANG LUANG
In 1949, after Mao Zedong’s Communist Party triumphed over the National Revolutionary Army in the Civil War. The National Revolutionary Army led by Chiang Kai-shek had to withdraw to Taiwan. But, some armies including the 193rd Division and the 93rd Division…plus, overall about 20,000 people in Yunnan…had to retreat to Myanmar and then to the northern border of Thailand. Afterwards, some soldier families decided to move to Taiwan, but some of the 93rd descendants still remain in Thailand and are still preserving their homeland identity…today.
