We were completely cut off by a Highland blizzard for five days.
No road access, snow drifts over a metre deep, and our croft buried.

This vlog documents five days of extreme winter conditions in the Scottish Highlands, as relentless snowstorms left us isolated from the village and struggling to keep everything going. With blizzard conditions, whiteouts, and drifting snow, even simple daily tasks became a challenge.

Over the course of five days, the snow continued to fall, piling up around the croft, blocking gates, fences, and tracks, and eventually causing our chicken enclosure to collapse under the weight. With no way out, we had to focus on looking after our animals, including our chickens, Ollie, our Springer Spaniel, Sherlock, our Eurasian Eagle owl, and our bees, while dealing with the damage and the reality of being snowed in.

This is not a how-to or survival guide, just an honest diary of life on a remote Highland croft when the weather turns extreme. From digging through deep drifts to checking livestock and assessing damage, this video shows what it’s really like living rurally when winter takes control.
