Pre-match press conference with Chelsea head coach Liam Rosenior ahead of Chelsea v Leeds United at Stamford Bridge in the Premier League.

Rosenior confirms Reece James is fit but felt unwell and insists “it’s not a conspiracy, it’s the truth”, adding he hopes James will be well enough to be involved.

He praises Cole Palmer as a “world class” player and says the squad are taking on a lot of information quickly despite limited training sessions. Rosenior also speaks about developing young defenders, describing Josh Acheampong as an “amazing talent” and insisting long term he is a centre back, while highlighting the work being done with Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Mamadou Sarr, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile and Levi Colwill to keep improving and play forward.

Rosenior provides injury updates, confirming Andrey Santos trained and is fine after a swollen ankle, Tosin Adarabioyo trained and is back around the group, and Romeo Lavia has been back on the training pitch with a detailed plan to make sure he is “back for good”.

He says he has no doubts about his players’ mental toughness and points to recent comebacks as evidence, while expecting a difficult, intense test against Daniel Farke’s Leeds.
