This Universal instruments model 6241B Axial/Sequencer Insertion machine, has many features that combine to ensure zero defect through hole assembly of nearly all axial components types.

You will notice a digital display flashing test results as the machine assembles the product. This is a highly effective quality control option known as an Expanded Range Verifier (ERV), used to test all components in Real-Time just prior to insertion process. You may also notice a hesitation in the cycle rate. The ERV option has a slight impact on speed.

The machine assembled 176 components per PCB at a cycle rate of 15444 Components per hour. The ERV will test almost any axial format component that can fit on the machine. This ensures the proper components were loaded into the proper locations with the correct orientation for parts with polarity.

The ERV tester is simple to program yet sophisticated enough to capture out of spec components with impressive results. In fact, so much so, that the Verifier has earned the nick name as the Terrifier. As a result may have made use of this option to effectively screen supplier quality.

When the ERV captures a out of spec component, the machine stops and alerts the operator for intervention. The conveyor chain assembly backs up presenting the defect to the operator and the display identifies the component and tolerance failure data. upon replacement the operator simply hits the start button to resume production and the tester retests the part location.
