For many parents, the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a place they never expected to find themselves – a world of beeping monitors, quiet strength, and waiting.

In this episode, we meet Valentina, a new mother who shares the powerful and emotional story of her premature baby's early arrival and their time in the NICU in Thessaloniki, Greece.

Valentina shares what it was like to face the NICU for the first time, her fears, the emotional ups and downs, and how she grew into her role as an active caregiver. She speaks about the steps she took to protect her baby from infections and the importance of awareness around antimicrobial resistance, especially in such a vulnerable setting.

"NICU Journeys" is a video series dedicated to sharing the voices of parents, highlighting their involvement in the care of their premature babies, and raising awareness about infection prevention and antimicrobial resistance.

It is a part of the EU-funded #NeoIPC project, which focuses on reducing the transmission of resistant bacteria in neonatal intensive care units across Europe and globally.
