He accidentally developed his slide guitar playing when he tried to sell his friend's resonator guitar to a guy who didn't know how to play slide guitar properly and ask for a demo. A few days before the meeting, he trained himself by watching instructional video by Sonny Landreth. The rest is history. Topaz is also known for his right-hand technique, which involves a percussive-like staccato-ish "ghost notes" fingerpicking chops on strings. The style he developed from years of playing banjo.

Having graduated from Musicians Institute of Hollywood, California, he believes and understands that humans have the ability to capture the certain intonations and frequencies produce by the surrounding environment and use them as a trigger for making musical compositions.

He named Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Iwan Fals, Sonny Landreth, Dave Matthews, and Son House, as his biggest musical influences. One of his social movement is trying to campaign the benefits of having household items and found objects to be transformed into playable musical instruments. "You don't need to spend lots of money to start playing music" is one of his quotes.

Topaz is known for his use of Duolian resonator guitars, a custom shovel guitar, a homemade "license plate" guitar and some other miscellanous roots instruments.
