Christianity itself was shocked with the emergence of a movement in the year 1972 when five-charismatic evangelicals came together and assumed spiritual agreement for a new system to govern the leadership and parishioners of the evangelical churches. They were famously known as the Fort-Lauderdale Five comprising the persons: Don Basham, Bob Mumford, Charles Simpson, Derek Prince, Ern Baxter. These are the founders of the Shepherding Movement that encompasses the ‘Spiritual Covering Doctrine.’ This doctrine was a system designed to enforce spiritual accountability in a somewhat subservient and ‘slave and master’ way of relating for Pastors, leaders and parishioners. This theological construct encompassed some good feats but it also simultaneously encompassed existential and excessive abuse of persons through the concept of ‘Spiritual Lordship’ and ‘Subservience.’ This demonic core of human subservience, subjugation, spiritual abuse and spiritual control over a persons personal life was rejected by many other famous evangelicals with substantial influence such as: Kathryn Kuhlman, Pat Robertson, and others who are fathers and mothers in the faith. Whilst the negative and demonic nature of this control-based cult like church structure has been undone in many places and church communities: this doctrine of Pastoral Lordship that causes great emotional, sometimes physical and spiritual abuse still exists today in many churches where people are under this curse of legalistic domination by the hands of many professing men of God.
