Anaxagoras

The Ancient Greek philosopher Anaxagoras, like his contemporary Empedocles, tried to reconcile the philosophies of Parmenides and Heraclitus. Wrestling with the questions of being and becoming, of reality and it is and how it changes. His answer involved the idea of infinitely small seeds that give a substance its characteristics, and "nous" or mind, causing these seeds to mix and mingle to cause change.
