Tevit, Tevyah, and the Angel Raphael - Jackson Snyder Presents the Book of TOBIT - • Storytime - Tevit, Tevyah, and the Angel R... Tobit is a remarkable book right out of the full Bible's Middle Testament unfortunately known as the Apocrypha. Tevit serves the Persian Empire illegally as a collector of martyred Jews during the time of the Captivity. He finds his ministry in locating the bodies of martyrs, then by night, collecting them and burying them rather than allowing them to rot and be eaten by dogs. His wife is Edna; his son is Tevyah, whom he wants to marry off to his cousin's daughter Sarah. She's been engaged seven times before, but on the wedding night of each marriage, before the marriage is consummated, the demon Asmodeus murders the groom, for Asmodeus is in love with the girl. Tevit sends Tevyah out ion a journey to collect some silver from his cousin, and in the meantime encouraging his to marry the daughter. Tevit enlists as stranger to go with him - the angel Raphael the healer in disguise. So the journey begins to Rages in Media. The heart of the story is in the disposition of the marriage between Tevyah and Sarah. Does Tevyah survive? Only if he acquires some fish guts along the way. There is a happy ending - Tevit, who was blinded when a sparrows pooped in his eyes, is finally healed by the wisdom of Raphael, and everybody lives happily ever after. This story contains several wonderful biblical prayers and customs; the New Testament refers to Tobit when the Sadducess inquire about the girl married to the seven husbands. "Whose will she be in the resurrection?"
