KC2026 plans to turn the National World War I Museum and Memorial lawn into the ultimate FIFA World Cup watch party.

Renderings of the FIFA Fan Festival show two huge stages, roughly 4,500 square feet of screens, and fun for the whole family.

"It's the largest activation that we have control over," said Pam Kramer, the CEO of KC2026. "FIFA will really control everything at the stadium, so this is our activation."

Global architecture firm and KC2026 Host City Supporter Populous designed the fan fest.

"The main stage will host the primary stage for the event," said Kelly Holton, a senior principal with Populous. "With live entertainment in the matches as well. But then the secondary stage will have a range of programming and other entertainment to complement that."

Renderings show the entrance to the fan fest will be on the south side of the lawn. Fans will walk under a 65-foot-tall heart-shaped arch to get inside the festival.

"It really is just something that just genuinely and authentically makes sense to Kansas City, because we all embrace and love that as an icon, and it really represents our charm and hospitality and our Midwestern warmth," said Holton.

The FIFA Fan Fest will have a capacity of 25,000 fans.

The recent Chappell Roan concerts on the WWI Museum and Memorial lawn gave KC2026 a preview of what some aspects of the fan fest could look like. Kramer said her team was at the lawn for the concert.

"That stage was about half the size of our stage," she said. "Even, you know, the ingress and egress and how we think about points of entry, learning from all of those."

Security will also be a big factor. As with Roan's concerts, the fan fest will also be closed off.

"It will be a secure perimeter," Kramer said. "It will be much like a stadium environment where there will be magnetometers; there'll be a clear bag policy."

The location of the FIFA Fan Fest is also important. Kramer said it will be a major piece of the KC2026 transportation plan.

"Before the end of the year, we'll announce the full transportation plan," Kramer said. "But Fan Fest will really be a hub for our transit and then tying into existing local transit."

FIFA Fan Fest will be open for at least 18 days. Those days will include every match hosted in Kansas City and every time the United States national team plays.

Kramer said it won't be open every day to help spread the economic impact across the region.

"We want people to experience all parts of the metro," Kramer said. "So, if we have some days where Fan Fest is not open, we think that will encourage people to go to Lee's Summit, to Overland Park, to Lenexa, to the Northland. That's intentional."

The Fan Fest will also bring a lot of attention to the World War I Museum. President and CEO Dr. Matt Naylor said they're planning to stay open every day the FIFA World Cup is in Kansas City.

“About 80% of the visitors to the National World War I Museum and Memorial come from outside of the region, so we're a destination museum and memorial,” Naylor said.

The FIFA Fan Festival will be free to everyone, but you will need to register ahead of time.

KC2026 will be working with local vendors at the fan festival. Opportunities for local bars and restaurants to be a part of Fan Fest will be announced in 2026.
