Located 40 minutes north of the Adelaide CBD at Munno Para in the City of Playford, the Stebonheath Curtis Wetlands are part of stage 2 of the Waterproofing Playford project and are due to open late 2013.

The wetlands utilise Smith Creek in order to capture, cleanse and harvest stormwater 300 mega litres (over 300 Olympic swimming pools) per year.

The water flows into the online capture basin and then gravity feeds into the wetland through a pipe that is over 1m in diameter. Gradually, water meanders through the wetland having all of the 'dirtiness' (suspended solids) removed naturally by use of reed beds and other aquatic plants. Once the water is has reached the end of its journey through the wetland it is ready to be injected into the aquifer for further treatment and later be removed for irrigation purposes. As well as being highly functional and serving to help improve the quality of the environment, the wetland provides a great public amenity.
