I am starting work on a project lawn for the 2021 season over at my friend's house. His lawn hasn't been tended to for a very long time and the grass hasn't even been cut in over two years at this point.

He, his wife, and kids live out in rough terrain so their flat lawn space is quite small and localized to their septic area. There is obviously remnants of old turf grass in the space mixed in between the abundant weed infestation that they are ready to get rid of.

The entire pint of this video and the series of videos to follow is to help my friend and his family first but it's also to illustrate a point to my viewers that no matter how bad your lawn is now it is somewhat easy to improve it significantly in a few months time without doing a lot of "fancy things" to the lawn or without spending a fortune on a full lawn renovation.

In this video, we mowed the grass, raked up the debris, mowed again, trimmed the edges with a weed eater, and then applied a weed pre-emergent, a fast-acting urea fertilizer, and a slow-acting organic fertilizer that should start feeding the lawn once the fast-acting urea in the Scotts product wears off.

In the follow-up video to this, we will be applying a weed killer and will be settling into a mowing and watering regimen where we slowly bring the height of cut down to a more reasonable 2.5-3". We will also be looking to bring in some fill dirt in the coming weeks to raise low (bare) spots in the lawn up to grade.

My friend asked me what battery mower I would advise him to get and I told him a push-only version of Snapper's 82-Volt line would be great as it comes with two small batteries that can be charged at the same rate they are discharged. Either the 19" or 21" version would work.
