Hey there, this is Ray with Bode Technical Services. With over 35 years of industry experience specializing in crane electronic repair and parts sales, we’ve learned a lot of things to help our customers find quality equipment.

Today we are going to look at the PAT Hirschmann Cable Reel, an integral part of crane safety and one that is part of every LMI system.

The Hirschmann Cable Reel is one of the few LMI components that has changed very little over the years. Its a time proven, industrial grade, rugged piece of LMI equipment that just works.

The main components are a spring-loaded reel, a sealed housing which contains various crane specific circuitry, and the internal angle sensor. The cable-reel length-cable also serves to transmit the A2B signal and various other jib data on more complex systems.

● Exact measurement of boom length
● Up to 15 additional signal channels via the length sensor cable

As far as ease of use goes, the cable reel comes ready to go right out of the box only requiring a simple mounting and zeroing procedure.

The length cable is mounted to the tip of the boom and transmits the anti two block signal. The number of turns and the diameter of the cable drum define the length of the uncoiled cable, thus, the telescopic length is determined. The angle measurement is determined by means of the angle sensor mounted inside the cable reel housing.
The PAT Hirschmann Cable Reel comes in two types, LWG adn LG. Length AND angle sensors comprise the LWG series and can be used on all kinds of equipment where a precise capture of the data relating to the length and angle of the telescopic boom is necessary.

Length sensing only comprise the LG range and are available and used exclusively for length data capture.
