Shekhar Kapur chats with Filmfare's Editor-In-Chief Jitesh Pillai about his trailblazing career as a filmmaker and navigating through the profession's ups and downs.
From a shy boy surrounded by legends like Dev Anand, to a rebellious teen challenging his own self-imposed morality, and eventually becoming one of India’s most celebrated filmmakers, Kapur takes us through the untold chapters of his extraordinary life.
He opens up about starting out with no real career choices, stumbling into chartered accountancy before discovering his fascination with storytelling. He recalls shooting Ishk Ishk Ishk with his uncle Dev Anand, meeting Madhubala, and being a “nepo kid” even before it was popular in pop-culture.

Kapur reflects on the volatile nature of the film industry, learning acting after becoming a director, and the unexpected origin story of Masoom. He shares behind-the-scenes memories of working with Gulzar and R.D. Burman, the freedom of making Masoom, and how Naseeruddin Shah’s character from Masoom mirrored his own life.
