Behold the jaw-dropping Ordning twist in the exciting conclusion to Act One!
Now on the inside of Thunderglobe and charmed by a chorus of SIrenes, our heroes ascend the stairs inside the Tower of Storms to confront Moesko on the second story battlement.
As they emerge from the stairwell they are greeted by a crowd of onlooking Star Spawn Hulks and Elemental Myrmidons, which did not attack, and all seemed to behave more as drones than individuals with agency.
A boiling incision appears on the inside surface of Thunderglobe and Moesko steps out to begin taunting our heroes.
Moesko asks the party what they know of the Ordning and delivers enough threats to properly stir the party into a fury.
Moesko scoffs at their ignorance and opens a portal, through which flutters the treacherous Ilpa Drino. Moesko addresses Ilpa as "Master" and beckons him: "show them who you really are!"
Ilpa traces a humanoid figure with his magical mace, leaving a trail or air and water elemental energy swirling in its wake with flares of fire elemental bursts of energy crackling intermittently.
The nefarious Fey then presses his palms into the center of this ring as earth elemental magic sprouts from Ilpa's fingertips to fill in the space of the ring, becoming a portal-looking pupating transformation spell.
The fairy disappears, ostensively melting into the elemental magic primordial ooze before emerging as a giant, larger than the hill giant they had encountered but smaller than their storm giant friends.
Strikingly handsome, Ilpa's giant form is a spectacle to behold: light purple skin with tracks of faint iridescent greens and blues, not too dissimilar from Nurvureem's true form but much subtler.
Ilpa gives a brief history of the Ordning: the giant caste system enforced by Annam the Allfather, an absentee god of all giants.
He ridicules the Ordning and points out a certain race isn't even considered worthy: the Fomorians.
The Fomorians were once the greatest magic users among giants in the days of Ostoria.
Ilpa Drino challenges the party before allowing them to advance further or learn any more -- they must first defeat Ilpa Drino's jester Thanoke the Idiot.
Bloodthirsty (and charmed), Gryke immediately springs to action, raging and landing several blows with his newly acquired +2 halberd.
Null and Kal also perform well in the battle as some of the characters notice lightning sparks begin to shoot from the Fomorian upon impact.
As our heroes beat down their hideous opponent, Moesko and Ilpa Drino cheer from the sky.
Then, in a moment of fate, just as Gryke comes down with his halberd to finish off the grotesquely deformed giant, Mando fires a final blast from his eldritch cannon against the Fomorian, setting off a chain of events...
Ilpa Drino and his forces roar with manic excitement as the curtain begins to fall...
Unbeknownst to the party, they had been fighting a weakened and cursed King Hekaton, leader of the storm giants, father to Princess Serissa, husband to Queen Neri.
The horrific transformation back to storm giant leaves Gryke and Null covered in blood and ichor.
The slain storm giant king utters a few final words to Gryke as he collapses: "Not your fault... Find Serissa... Become the Quintessant..."
As Hekaton lets out his last breath, a beam or pure radiant and electrical energy blasts from his chest as well as the scepter he wields.
The blast of energy pierces Thunderglobe, continuing on to the stratosphere, at which point it erupts into a thousand directions, spreading across Toril.
"Behold, the shattering of the Ordning," cries Ilpa Drino to his macabre witnesses.
Mando tries to attack Moesko but this troublesome bounty turns out to be quite the trickster in combat, using reactions to switch places with allies to avoid taking damage.
Gryke swings his halberd in full rage at Ilpa but something inside him stops the blade before it can make contact. Ilpa smirks at Gryke, knowing he wasn't ever going to be harmed by this particular Tortle.
Gryke was infected back in Session 2 or 3 with [spoiler!], which renders him unable to attack Ilpa or anyone Ilpa doesn't want attacked... until further notice.
Ilpa informed the party that the prophecy decreed the storm king must die by the hands of the righteous, thanked them for helping his cause (restoration of Ostoria with him as leader), and portal'd away but not before addressing the sky with a confusing command: "Olhydra, wash away all of this--make sure nothing is left."
Thunderglobe begins to rearrange itself into a pseudopod / cobra shape as Seven and the Neverweakened finally is able to make contact with the group: "Hold on, I'm coming!"
Seven fires a torpedo into Olhydra and manages to scoop up the crew before Olhydra attacks and completely destroys the Tower of Storms, washing away even the ground beneath it.
Our heroes look on at the scene, having newfound purpose to drive their story forward.
