USS Ralph Talbot (DD-390) was a Bagley-class destroyer commissioned in 1937 and named for Medal of Honor recipient Marine 2nd Lt. Ralph Talbot. She was active throughout the Pacific during World War II and earned 14 battle stars for her service. At Pearl Harbor on the morning of December 7th, she quickly engaged enemy aircraft and got underway for open water where she searched for the Japanese and conducted anti-submarine patrols. She participated in the early 1942 raids on Japanese-held islands, the Battle of Midway, and the Guadalcanal campaign, where she was damaged at the First Battle of Savo Island. After repairs, she supported major operations across the Pacific, including New Guinea, the Solomons, the Marianas, Leyte, Luzon, Iwo Jima, and Okinawa. Postwar, she took part in Operation Crossroads at Bikini Atoll, where she was significantly contaminated by nuclear fallout. Ralph Talbot was decommissioned in 1946 and scuttled off Kwajalein in 1948.
