Early morning shots at a racing stable. Stable boys come through a door and walk to stables. C/U of a horse looking over the top of a stable door. Man holds a large horse by the reins. Another tries to groom the horse but it bucks. L/S of two men in a field with a young horse on a training rope. The horse runs in a circle around them. One of the men places a saddle on its back and this time it bucks - obviously not happy about the saddle. High angle shot of the courtyard of the stables where several horses are led out to be paraded. Horses are led around the courtyard then outside down a country lane. The horses are taken for a gentle walk and canter on the downs.



Intertitle reads: "Starting gate exercise is essential - there are more people in the workhouse through bad starts than any other form of amusement." L/S of horses at starting line. C/U of hinge being lifted so that the line is released and shoots up in the air, the horses set off. L/S of the horses galloping towards the camera. The horses are then led back to the stables. Courtyard - horses are fed by the stable hands. L/S of three of the best horses being exercised. Horses race towards the camera from a long way off. The trainer watches their form.
