"I studied for five years at university, then for another three years on a postgraduate course - that makes it eight years. Before I went to university I already knew that this was what I wanted to do, but it's a long time."

"There is jealousy between designers, some of them say to us, 'Under no circumstances work for this person, otherwise you won't be able to come back and work for me.' Of course there is enormous competition, but I find this all quite amusing because the world of models and Russian designers is very small, and it would be far better if everyone offered each other support and helped each other out. That's what I think, anyway."

"Famous brands have opportunities, they have special productions for the catwalk, then secondary less expensive lines of production and so on. Of course we can't offer very expensive clothes as our Russian public wouldn't buy them, well, I mean the majority of Russians can't afford it."

RUSSIAN DESIGNERS SHOWCASE AT VOLVO FASHION WEEK IN MOSCOW
A group of Russian designers showcased their new collections on Saturday (29 October 2011), the forth day of the Volvo Fashion Week Moscow.
Eleonora Omosova, whose collection favored leather, tulle and metallic fabrics, explained that it's difficult to become a designer as it takes a long time.
"I studied for five years at university, then for another three years on a postgraduate course - that makes it eight years," said the young designer. "Before I went to university I already knew that this was what I wanted to do, but it's a long time."
The Russian fashion industry is still growing and it's not as developed as it is in the West.
"Famous brands have opportunities, they have special productions for the catwalk, then secondary less expensive lines of production," commented designer Galina Vasilyeva, who also showed her collection at the Volvo Fashion Week. "Of course we can't offer very expensive clothes as our Russian public wouldn't buy them, well, I mean the majority of Russians can't afford it."
