Heavy rainfall transformed the beaches and mountains of Iran’s Hormuz Island into a dramatic landscape of deep red, as iron-rich soil washed down rocky slopes and into the sea.

Footage shows crimson streams cascading toward the shoreline, tinting the waves and coastline in striking shades of red. The phenomenon, locally known as “Kilak,” occurs when rain activates soil rich in iron oxide, a mineral that gives the island its famous colors.

Often called “Rainbow Island,” Hormuz Island is home to more than 70 different minerals, creating one of the most geologically diverse landscapes in the world. While red deposits are visible year-round, rainfall intensifies the effect, producing these breathtaking scenes.
