Full Playlist:    • "Resident Evil" Adaptation ~ Mark's Hypoth...

Hello everyone, this is Mark Cobuzzi.

Ever since I had recently begun teaching myself how to edit together my own videos and upload them on YouTube, I have been wanting to share some of my personal fan projects I had made in years past. Being a movie buff, I have developed an occasional hobby of wanting to imagine my own ideas for various movies and compiling them into detailed presentations to share with friends and family members.

The very first movie I ended up creating in my head was a movie adaptation of the first Resident Evil or Biohazard video game. Seeing the first Paul WS Anderson movie on TV was how I first heard about the franchise and it gave me the idea to start researching those games to see if I would enjoy playing them. After picking up Resident Evil 5 to test the waters, I then bought the remake of the very first game, released on the Nintendo Gamecube and Wii. The remake became my first real exposure to the survival horror genre and is one that I consider a near-perfect masterpiece. Soon, this whole franchise by Capcom became one of my favorite video game series, in part, because of how well I thought these games presented various science-fiction stories, about humanity playing God with biotechnology either irresponsibly or with nefarious intent. The games then take these sci-fi stories and seamlessly wrap them up in homages to all the classic horror films and b-monster flicks, making for one unique mythos.

After seeing how much I liked the storylines and lore within these games, I thought that the source material definitely had the potential for a few great movies, especially ones based on the first two games. My interest grew when I learned that George A. Romero was originally hired to write and direct the first live-action movie, read his script online, and saw Capcom’s animated Resident Evil movies for myself.

When I spent time imagining what a direct adaptation of the first game would be like, I finally decided to make these presentations, originally just to show to my friend who was also a huge film buff. My ideas for a movie based on the Arklay Mansion incident was influenced by Romero’s script at first, as you can see in some of the opening scenes, but it soon became a very different entity.

My presentations are divided into four chapters, each one having six to eight scenes. The intended runtime is about as long as James Cameron’s Aliens. I attempted to reformat the narrative in order to better fit the flow of a movie, have all of the major characters end up in the same place by the end, keep the survival horror tone intact, incorporate a lot of the same types of rooms or locations, see which parts of the central story could be expanded upon, pay homage to some of its popular moments and gameplay conventions, and incorporate lots of world-building Easter Eggs which would set up lore and events from the other games. I also tried take the game’s final boss, two more of its iconic bosses, and its three most essential regular enemies and give them a prominent presence in the narrative.

So here it is, my hypothetical first movie adaptation of the “Resident Evil” series for you all to see.

Chapter 1 Scene 1: "Opening Scene"

And so our story begins in the Arklay Mountains. Starting with the events of Resident Evil Zero, we see S.T.A.R.S. Bravo Team being sent into the wilderness to investigate strange disappearances and murders, only to crash in the middle of the woods and find themselves stalked by something unnatural.

The video clips were taken from the openings to RE1 (both PS1 version and Remake) and the prequel, RE Zero. The sound-effects were taken from the 2010 remake of "The Wolfman."

The fan music I referenced was track named "On the Prowl" made by an account, musicinmind3, for the 2010 Wolfman movie. However, the account is no longer here and I was unsure about uploading a sample of someone else's fan music when the original account and track is now nowhere to be found. So I used a substitute:    • Resident Evil - pipe organ mansion theme
