6. SOUNDBITE (English) Josh Wagner, owner of damaged home:
"So you put it here, you know you put it back here, you roll it down. You put some cement bags to hold it, roll it down and the key to it is overlapping it and putting zip ties so it becomes a giant carpet. But it can take water, so I think that part of it just doesn't let the sand out."
7. Shot of the damaged seawall

Wilbur-by-the Sea, Florida - 11 November 2022
8. SOUNDBITE (English) Ken Meister, owner of a half-collapsed home:
"Well you really have to go back to hurricane Ian because that's where all of this begins. So during Ian we had a tremendous amount of beach erosion and put all the properties at risk. Most of the properties on the beach have seawalls but I'd say maybe 10%, 20% don't. So we suffer a lot of beach erosion, so we immediately try to get a seawall built."

9. SOUNDBITE (English) Ken Meister, owner of a half-collapsed home:
"The dunes before hurricane Ian went out another hundred feet. So all this that you can see here that would go out probably 40 yards would've been (inaudible) from our property down to the beach. You know natural plants (inaudible) and things like that. So it was very attractive but again with the scaring that takes place from another seawall it never stood a chance."

10. SOUNDBITE (English) Ken Meister, owner of a half-collapsed home:
"We prayed, we watched the tides, we knew when the high tides were coming and when most sewage was coming. Made it through Wednesday night, I was not here at the house I left but my neighbor was taking pictures. And then Thursday morning we thought we might make it and about I'm guessing 10 o'clock, 11 o'clock yesterday we lost a big chunk of the house and then the roof and the columns and the support beams and all the glass, sliders out to the beach.

11. SOUNDBITE (English) Ken Meister, owner of a half-collapsed home:
"So today I came back and cleaned up, took out furniture that we could salvage, met with engineers and demolition experts and try to figure out what we do next."

STORYLINE:
Heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Nicole covered the eastern United States from Georgia to the Canadian border Friday while hundreds of people on a hard-hit stretch of Florida's coast wondered when, or if, they could return to their homes.
As waves washed over pieces of lumber and concrete blocks that once were part of homes at Wilbur-by-the-Sea, workers tried to stabilize remaining sections of land with rocks and dirt.
It was too late for some, though: The front of one house laid on the sand, where it was sheared away from the rest of the structure.
Parts of otherwise intact buildings hung over cliffs of sand created by pounding waves that covered the normally wide beach.
Dozens of hotel and condominium towers as tall as 22 stories were declared uninhabitable in Daytona Beach Shores and New Smyrna Beach after seawater undercut their foundations.
Just six weeks ago, Hurricane Ian caused an initial round of damage that contributed to problems from Nicole.
