If you’re suffering from heel spur and are looking for a way to treat it, this video might be helpful. I’ll explain what a heel spur is and how to treat it, also showing you an exercise that you can start doing right away.

A heel spur is a condition that can be diagnosed through a foot X-ray. This condition manifests as a small bony spur that protrudes in the area where the plantar fascia is located, a tissue designed to keep the foot in an ideal position. This bony spur, or heel spur, is the result of a small sedimentation of calcium, a process through which your body strengthens a certain area.

The heel spur is similar to a callus on the hands. It’s a mechanism that your body uses to thicken and strengthen a part of the body. In fact, many people after a certain age have a heel spur. It’s a fairly common and normal phenomenon since we constantly walk on our feet.

The pain you feel is not caused by the heel spur, but probably because you have overloaded your plantar fascia, which might be too rigid or weak. You don’t need to resort to excessive therapies, surgery, or infiltrations. Instead, you should embark on a gradual path of strengthening the muscles of the plantar fascia. Over time, your tissues will de-inflame and become stronger and capable of bearing the load.

There’s an exercise you can do to alleviate plantar fascia pain and resolve your heel spur. Every morning, when you get up and put your foot on the ground, try to stand on your tiptoes. This position can help alleviate the pain. Try to maintain this position for a longer period of time each day, starting with 30 seconds and gradually increasing up to a minute and a half. Over time, your tissues will strengthen and the pain will pass. Remember, strengthening these muscles is the key to relieving heel pain. Good luck!
