2024 FDNY Youth Leadership Academy

As the summer begins to wind down, we found ourselves immersed in the vibrant energy of the New York City Fire Department final block party in Staten Island. The streets came alive with music, laughter, and the savory aroma of food from our BBQ grills. The kids bounced and went for a walk with our dog Bergh, while adults mingled, ate and danced while reminiscing about summer memories. The FDNY pulled out all the stops, with fire trucks on display for the little ones to explore, and live music from DJ Remarkable that kept everyone on their feet. It was a day filled with community spirit and pure joy—a perfect send-off to a memorable summer.

Big thank you to Engine157 and Ladder 80 for hosting and sharing their neighbors with us, as they filled the streets with excitement and enthusiasm. We extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone who joined us and made the day truly special.

We are also deeply grateful to the FDNY Foundation for their generous support, which makes events like this possible. A big thank you to a board member of the foundation and now the new FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker.

Additionally, it was a pleasure to have our FDNY HS Robotics Club Students assisting with the many questions the neighborhood had for us about all of our equipment and technology that the fire department has been using at different emergencies and gatherings. The neighbors showed up with enthusiasm and curiosity, and the children in attendance also asked some fantastic questions, highlighting their keen interest in our technology.

We also had the U.S. Naval Sea Cadet Corps stop by, as well as Paul Matrecano Community Liason to Senator Scarcella-Stanton. Until till next year, wishing all a safe and enjoyable close to summer 2024.
