An India-based startup, Adalat AI, has developed a platform to streamline work in the country's district courts. In an interview with India Today, founders Utkarsh Saxena and Orgah Bhattacharya explain how their technology automates clerical processes for judges, including a dictation tool that accurately transcribes legal jargon and case citations. The platform, now in 3,000 courtrooms across nine states, aims to tackle delays in the justice system. One founder highlighted the urgency, stating, “India has the world's largest under trial population. 80% of prisoners are not convicts serving a sentence, but just under trials waiting for their day in court.” The AI can also transcribe and translate witness testimonies from regional languages to English in real-time, significantly reducing time spent in court.
