Let's Talk About: Surgical scars

I occasionally have the patient that wants to avoid a certain surgery because they are scared to have a scar. Sorry to burst your bubble.... but every surgery leaves a scar! As plastic surgeons, our goal is to give you the least noticeable scar possible. We accomplish this by placing our scars in areas that are easily hidden or within natural folds or creases of the body. We have different sewing techniques that we use to give you the best looking scar as well. We also discuss appropriate post-operative care that will help set you up for having a barely noticeable scar.

Some people, unfortunately, naturally form bad scars. There are things we can do to help improve the appearance of scars including, creams, lasers and other energy devices to help improve the color and texture of your scar.

But for the most part, plastic surgeons are able to achieve very thin, hardly noticeable scars.
