Throwing one of my new favourite shapes—an angular bud vase form, drawn up tall, bellied out angled, and finally the top is collared in carefully and dropped inward to a narrow opening, which is better for keeping the steps or flowers upright. Whilst I love making this particular shape, glazing it is definitely more problematic as if any of the outside ‘steps’ aren’t coated evenly it shows and ruins it but even worse is getting all of the inside glaze out, without it dribbling over onto the exterior. This meant, that for my first batch of three of these, it took me two attempts on each to figure out a glazing method that was successful.

The hardest part though, by far, when throwing this bulbous form, is getting all of the proportions right. From the lowest plane, that of the waist, the sloping shoulder and the dipping rim, if any are off then the entire pot feels at odds with itself.
