Inter Caste Marriage valid or not! Explained by Bhagavad Gita.

Hinduism has many rich mythology and sacred beliefs associated. Major Hindu population follows these beliefs exclusively. Still, misconception or you can say- manipulation, has given a different shape to the society.

Inter caste marriages are considered to be a social taboo in Hinduism. People believe that, those who break this taboo acquire bad luck and negative incidents due to bad karma.

Let’s discuss this context on the basis of ‘Shri Math Bhagavad Gita’ – the most sacred book of Hindu religion. In reality this entire system of caste allotment is not understood by common people since the ‘Dwapara Yuga’.

Gita Chapter 4, Verse 13.

“Catur-varnyam maya srstam guna-karma-vibhagasah

Tasya kartaram api mam viddhy akartaram avyayam”

Lord Krishna said:-

“The four categories of occupations were created by me according to people’s three qualities and activities (guna and karma). Although I am the creator of this system, know me to be the non-doer and eternal.”

This verse from Gita clearly states that caste is assigned to people not on the basis of their birth but on the three attributes and profession carried by them.
No child is automatically bound to the same caste as his parent.
The purpose of allotting caste is to enable the person to do his specific karma and reach towards ‘Moksha’ i.e. Liberation.

Gita Chapter 1, Verse 40, 41.

“adharmabhibhavat kṛiṣhṇa praduṣhyanti kula-striyaḥ

striṣhu duṣhṭasu varṣhṇeya jayate varṇa-sankaraḥ”

“sankarah narakaya eva kula ghnanam

kulasya ca patanti pitarah hi esam lupta pinda udaka kriyah”

Arjuna said:-

“With the preponderance of vice, O Krishna, the women of the family become immoral; and from the immorality of women, O descendent of Vrishni, unwanted progeny are born.”

Here Arjuna is saying Krishna that in a family of different castes, the women become corrupt and the pithrus of the family fall off without getting the appropriate pindam, which leads the family to the gates of the hell. When there is increase of unwanted population, a hellish situation is created both for the family and for those who destroy the family tradition. In such corrupt families, there is no offering of oblations of food and water to the ancestors.

Gita Chapter 2, Verse 3

In response to the above given comment by Arjuna in Chapter 1, Verse 41 and 40;

Krishna said:-

“klaibyam ma sma gamaḥ partha naitat tvayyupapadyate

kṣhudram hṛidaya-daurbalyam tyaktvottiṣhṭha parantapa”

“O Parth, it does not befit you to yield to this unmanliness. Give up such petty weakness of heart and arise, O vanquisher of enemies.”

“Hence, in Bhagavad Gita, Lord Krishna has clearly supported inter caste marriages.”

This practice of caste discrimination is man-made and those who follow it are termed “unmanly” by the Lord in Gita. So, if you are a Hindu and you think you are upgrading your religion and dynasty by not supporting inter caste marriage, then you are WRONG!
