Thorny seahorses (Hippocampus histrix) are easily recognized by their numerous sharp, curved spines, offering superb camouflage among algae and hydroids in Anilao's reefs.
Reaching a maximum size of about 15-17 cm, their small stature allows them to maneuver through the complex coral structures of Anilao.
The male thorny seahorse, like all seahorses, incubates the eggs in a ventral pouch after the female deposits them, eventually releasing tiny seahorse offspring.

Filmed in Anilao in April 2025, during a stay and dives with Buceo Anilao Beach & Dive Resort.
