(17 Dec 2013) The head of the United Nation's (UN) fact-finding team in Syria says there should be an investigation to determine who was responsible for chemical weapons attacks in the country.
Ake Sellstrom told the Associated Press late on Monday that his team gathered lots of facts but not enough to determine who was "the guilty party".
The UN team concluded last Thursday that chemical weapons were definitely used in a major attack on August 21 near Damascus and probably in four other locations this year.
Sellstrom described the attack as "a hideous crime" and said "it's logical that this should be followed up and brought to court somehow, or brought to a tribunal or brought to something."
Sellstrom said he "would think it's sad" if no one is brought to account for the attack, in which the US government said more than 1,400 people were killed.
