Printing an old cigar ad for National No Smoking Day (March 13)

March 13th is National No Smoking Day, a day to raise awareness on the harmful and deadly effects of tobacco use.

For today, Howard letterpress printed an image from an electrotype (copy of a woodcut) that was made roughly 120 years ago. This cut was originally used in tobacco advertising for Danbury Boy Cigars. While we do not condone the subject matter, it is one of our more detailed cuts that we have in the Bill Gaylord Collection in our print shop exhibit. This printed with black rubber base ink using our Washington hand press.
