Did Joseph Smith's siblings believe in his prophetic claims? Ep. 195

Описание к видео Did Joseph Smith's siblings believe in his prophetic claims? Ep. 195

When discussing our church history, it's not very often that we talk about those who would have known Joseph better than anyone else: his own family. Who were Joseph's siblings? What was their involvement in the progress of the Church? And did they sustain their brother as a prophet? Let's talk about it.

Notes:

— The Smith family moved to Palmyra, New York in 1816, but it wasn’t until 1818 that they finally had their own farm and had built their own small, two-story log cabin. Joseph lived here when he had his first vision, and when the Angel Moroni visited him in 1823. After building the somewhat rugged cabin, the Smiths set out to build a proper frame home, which many of the Smiths lived in from 1825 to 1829.

—Sadly, only about a week after Don Carlos died, the baby boy of Joseph and Emma (also named Don Carlos) also died.

— It’s worth noting that while Hyrum and Jerusha had six children together, two of them died early on.

— Katherine’s grandson reported that when an injured and exhausted Joseph first brought the covered plates home, 14-year-old Katherine received them and temporarily placed them on the table before attending to Joseph’s injuries. Source: https://bit.ly/41ZoKNd

— Katherine’s granddaughter reported that Katherine and her sister, Sophronia, on one occasion hid the covered golden plates from a mob by stowing them in their bed and pretending to be asleep. Source: https://bit.ly/3JqBzbO

— At 19 years old, William Smith was baptized on the same day as Don Carlos, June 9, 1830.
