Frances Hodgson Burnett Biography - British-American Novelist and Playwright

The death of her father precipitated the family to ruin, so they had to emigrate to the United States in 1865. At that time, Frances made her living writing poems and short stories. At the age of twenty-three she married Dr. P. Burnett, with whom she had two children. In 1877 his first novel appeared, That Lass O'Lowrie's, but his success did not come until the publication of The Little Lord (1885), later consolidating himself with The Little Princess (1905) (the same year he became a US citizen) and The Secret Garden. (1910), which complete his trilogy for boys and girls. Since 1901, after marrying Dr. Swann M. Burnett, she divorced and remarried Dr. Stephen Townsend, whom again after divorcing. She resided in Bermuda and Long Island after being divorced twice and, furthermore, after the loss of her first-born, dedicated to gardening, theosophy and spiritism until her death in 1924.

In her works the memory of the different social classes and the reversals of fortune has always been present.
