Описание к видео RDI autism intervention |sorting activity

Video reflection questions

1. Has Samara ever tried this activity before? (Or engaged with this materials before?)
Yes we tried a variation of this same activity last week with just her and I and only with her things.

2. Where do you notice yourself using declarative language instead of asking questions or directing? (List a few examples)
"these are your items to pick from"
"its your turn" "its mommy's turn" "its daddy's turn"
"daddy's trying to decide what to do"

3. Where did you share YOUR experience through declarative language?
With each of our items we talked through why we were giving away or keeping each item. "These shoes are uncomfortable. I think I'll give them away" "This is a classic. Its a keeper"
4. Where did you use directives or questions in a way you feel you could have rephrased for a meaningful opportunity? If so, list here and share a rephrase example.
I did a lot of asking questions as I was asking her if each item was going to stay home or give it away. In hindsight I think I should have given her options and a different example of language rather than asking that question repeatedly.
"we can put it in the box to stay home or in the box to give away"
Instead of your turn every time I could have said "Here's something for you to sort" Or "Its time for you to pick something." "you can pick something now."

5. What do you feel was the best part of the engagement?
The fact she left the activity a couple times but easily came back when I said it was her turn. Also that she was taking an interest in the items we were sorting for ourselves and not just her items.

6. What would you do differently next time?
I think this might have been a little too long as she got frustrated and just wanted to sort all her things and get it over with by the last couple items. Turn taking is still a little rough for her. I would also find a different place for daddy's things instead of in the middle of the table as she wanted to sort his things instead of hers.

7. What questions do you have for me? Yes, i'm running out of ways to "celebrate" the end of the activity. "we did it" is going to get old.

"RDI® is a significant departure from traditional ASD interventions, and does not simply seek to mask the condition with scripted conversations or rehearsed behaviors. Our model allows for neuro-cognitive changes to occur over time that provide the individual with the skills needed to navigate life’s challenges on their own. By developing this capacity for dynamic thinking, we open the door to the possibility of a greater quality of life that includes: reciprocal communication, genuine friendships, confident, independent living, prolonged relationships and meaningful employment"
