Traditional Pontian Wedding -
Part of the 1980's documentary called "Megalo Xreos" meaning the "Great Debt"(in regard to maintaining our rich heritage and history).

The Kemence / Lyra player is Georgos "Shamoults" Amarantidis. you will notice Niko Zournazidis try out some acting as well. Lizetta Nicolaou sings the wedding song of 7 pairs and the 1 (efta zevgare ke to tek)... whilst the couples hold the candles and dance around. They say the dance reprosents the 7 wonders of the church and the "tek" is the one single almighty GOD!!

Sorry about the B/W but it was a transfer from Greece's NTSC to Australias PAL system.

Also their was the tradition of "Marss" where the bride was not allowed talk to her in-laws or look at her father-in-law in the eyes until she gave birth (to a boy) or if he allowed it earlier!!! This tradition was kept more in the villages then the cities, but WOW, now days theirs no stopping the women talking!!!

enjoy
