Описание к видео Two Minutes of Anatomy: Medial and Lateral Meniscus

Meniscus
Medial and Lateral
Cartilage called the menisci separates the femur and tibia.
Divided into two crescent shaped discs located medially and laterally in the knee joint.

When viewed from above:
Medial meniscus is “C” shaped.
Lateral meniscus is “O” shaped.

Attach to tibial plateau along the periphery.
Attached to patella via patellomeniscal ligaments, which are thickenings of anterior knee joint capsule.
Medial meniscus is much less mobile during joint motion than lateral meniscus.
Medial meniscus is firmly attached to knee joint capsule and medial collateral ligament (MCL).
Lateral meniscus is less firmly attached to knee joint capsule and does not attachment to lateral collateral ligament (LCL).
Functions: Transmit weight bearing forces, provide stability, absorb shock, facilitate nutrition, provide lubrication and promote knee proprioception.
