Under India’s National Immunization Program (NIP), only Measles and Rubella vaccines are provided — but not MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella). So, why is Mumps left out?

The government believes that mumps doesn’t cause a major public health burden. But the reality is different — Mumps cases are being reported regularly, especially in children with symptoms like swollen jaws, fever, and in some cases, serious complications like infertility later in life.

👶 Doctors recommend that children receive the MMR vaccine at 9 and 15 months, instead of just MR.

📍States like Tamil Nadu have already requested the central government to include MMR in the national schedule due to rising mumps cases — also seen in Maharashtra.

‼️ So if you’re only following the government schedule, your child might not be protected against mumps. Talk to your pediatrician about getting the MMR vaccine privately — it’s safe, effective, and easily available.
