In this video, we discuss the Electoral Bond Scheme, which has been called the Electoral Bond Scam, by the opposition, after the Supreme Court declared it unconstitutional and illegal. The Supreme Court also ordered SBI (State Bank of India) to release all data related to Electoral Bonds.

The data revealed that BJP was the largest benefactor of the Electoral Bonds Scheme, introduced by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, under the Narendra Modi government in 2018. Regional parties such as TMC, BJD & BRS also benefitted. The legal tussle was a long-winded one with SBI asking for 4 months time to release the data. But, the five-judge bench headed by the Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud himself, ordered the release of data way before what SBI asked for. There were also tussles around the release of the hidden ‘alphanumeric’ code.

The biggest donor turned out to be lottery king Santiago Martin and owner of Future Gaming and Hotel Services, followed by Megha Infrastructure & Engineering, Serum Institute of India and other companies like DLF, Vedanta, etc.

A lot of questions have been raised. Were the CBI, ED, and IT Department being used to extort money through Electoral Bonds? Were ‘quid pro quo’ benefits given out by the ruling governments?
