General Note:

My entire intention for these videos is to act as a visual support towards experiencing and embracing the process of art. Trusting the process is one of the most valuable skills an artist can learn. Understanding that art takes time is another. That’s why the only editing that this project has gone through is to add music, insert the artist’s acknowledgements and notes along the way. I want those seeing this to know how much time this took without the timelapse.


Research Notes:

I’ve come to sealing the base of my vase… gravity keeps dropping beads that face downward off of the rounded handle, and I can only see more issues as I bead around the remainder of the piece. It’s time to test out a sealant that I’d seen in another YouTube video that is also child-safe, in case I try this concept out with my students someday. I’ll be using this method for the rest of my beaded sculptures going forward.

For those, I’ll most likely show a small gallery rather than the process, now that I’ve shared my experiences researching the artform so far.

Until then, if you’re doing this with me, keep allowing yourself to be a beginner, make mistakes and keep notes. You’ll find your way. :)

Variations can be made based on material you’d like to use. I would suggest sticking with the larger glass beads and invest in an Awl, which is a better tool to add the beads to your piece. If you don’t have access to one, the pin worked fine. You’ll just need to use wax to get the needle end sticky here and there throughout the project.

I am interested in trying the same process with Perler Beads or even ponytail beads so that it is a little more "fine motor skill" friendly for students or those that might find the size of the bead difficult to work with.

Note about music over audio instructions:

Until I have a quiet space to record directions, I will be avoiding adding them.

Life happens at my house. It’s loud and alive, silly and spontaneous… During nearly all of my videos, ambient sounds are not the only ones recorded.
